I am Jessie Lightburn, and I am running for Courtenay City Council — to bring practical, transparent, community-first leadership to the decisions that shape our city.
These are the priorities I will champion at the Council table — grounded in real community needs, fiscal responsibility, and care for the people who call Courtenay home.
Courtenay currently has no dedicated line item in the city budget for cultural tourism, or for the events and initiatives that bring people here to participate. I will push to change that — investing in the festivals, arts, and gatherings that strengthen our local economy and our community spirit.
Homelessness and housing insecurity affect us all. I will champion compassionate, proven models — including exploring supported sober-housing approaches used elsewhere in BC — so that people get the help they need and our neighbourhoods stay safe and vibrant.
Cheapest is not always best value. I will apply a triple bottom line to city decisions — weighing impact on workers, residents, and long-term public value — and keep core services in-house so your tax dollars and local jobs stay here.
Council sets the tone. I will bring transparency, good-faith collaboration, and accountability to the way decisions are made — and expect the same from senior leadership, so residents can trust how their city is run.
Strong finances mean more than cutting costs — they mean smart planning, operational efficiency, and fair provincial funding for the infrastructure Courtenay needs. I will treat your money like it is my own.
From my background in health and safety and legislation, I know that safety and dignity are non-negotiable. I will bring that lens to every decision — for workers, families, elders, and newcomers alike.
Every vote is a voice for the kind of Courtenay we want to build together. Let us lead with honesty, integrity, and care.
